You may or may not that I grew up playing baseball, watching baseball and coaching baseball. It has been part of my life since I was little. I even went to the States and played a year down there. I wouldn’t call myself a super fan, I don’t follow a particular team and I don’t know all the players stats, but there is something I know a lot about, and that’s teamwork. In years past watched quite a bit of ball with my dad, and one of my favourite teams to watch was the Kansas City Royals. It wasn’t too long ago they were one of the worst teams in baseball, finishing below the .500 mark (win percentage) on a regular basis. In recent years they have really improved, making it to the World Series twice, and winning it this year, as many know (to the disappointment of Jays fans).
I realize you are probably wondering “How does this relate to chiropractic???” One of the things that impresses me the most about Kansas City is that it is not all about one player. When looking at their payroll they sit 16th on the list. They are half of the Dodgers payroll and just over half of the New York Yankees. Even the Blue Jays are sitting at 10th. When comparing that to the other division, the New York Mets are even further down the list in regards to payroll. This means they aren’t bankrolling a lot of major stars. This strikes me as very important and very inspirational. Watching the Royals last year I was incredibly impressed at how every player had increased his level of play to reach their goal, and I would assume this year is no different.
Going back to the question on how this relates to your health. For me this year’s playoff run highlights the importance of team work. It is not all about one person, but rather about working together to reach a goal and achieve a dream. Your health works in a similar way. In order to reach your full potential in anything you want to do you need a good team surrounding you. Realistically, this applies to any goal you want to achieve. If you don’t have a team of supportive people around you it is going to the journey much more difficult. In the healthcare world this means getting a solid team of health care providers helping you get to where you want to go. It means seeking advice and help from anyone and any avenue. This can be a combination of chiropractic, massage, physiotherapy, naturopath, nutrition or acupuncture, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you find the combination that works for you. Seek these people out, search out ones that truly want to help. You will know them when you find them, because they will be passionate about what they do.
Personally, I have found this to be true in many aspects of my life. I have had the opportunity to do some truly great things, host events and be part of some fantastic organizations, and I have had to deal with personal tragedy as well. Through it all I had support of truly amazing people who have supported me, pushed me and generally been there for me. Clearly, when I speak about the importance of having a great team around you, I speak from experience.
Find a goal, take aim and start your journey. Those who believe you will follow. Those who believe IN you will push you and help you.
This article is dedicated to all those who have helped me achieve success and supported me through my hard times. Thank you to my friends, family, co-workers and especially my fiancé. I would not be who I am today without them.
